Requesting Special PCs
Armageddon MUD has the karma system, where players are given additional
race and guild options if they have demonstrated that they are
capable of running such a character. However, if there is a race or guild
that does not appear on your options, yet you have a terrific idea for
you, you're welcome to apply to run one, by sending an email to the
staff member handling special applications. This is currently
Nessalin.
This also holds true for characters that are special by virtue of having
coded abilities, unique possessions, economic wealth outside of a noble
or merchant House, additional skills, etc. We prefer to keep such characters
very scarce on the game, because it's unfair to other players. However,
if you have a compelling character concept that requires such things, you
are welcome to float the notion past whatever staff member is handling
special applications.
Please understand that a special application may take a week or more to
process. You are welcome to make a character to run while waiting to hear
back about a special character. Special characters will only be approved
for players who the staff feel are capable of handling them correctly,
which is evaluated by looking at character and account notes and recent play.
To request a special character, you will need to
e-mail
Nessalin,
noting the following:
- your account name,
- the race and/or guild you are requesting to be allowed to play,
- a brief summary of your proposed PC's background, and
- if applicable, a statement of what you would try to achieve with the PC.
A few important notes:
- Send your request for a special PC from the e-mail address registered to
your account. If you don't, we cannot verify that you are who you claim
to be.
- If you are missing any of the basic options (dwarf, elf, half-elf,
human, assassin, burglar, merchant, pick-pocket, ranger, and warrior)
and it is not due to some error (this is usually due to extremely
poor play in one of these basic roles), there is a strong chance that
your request will be denied.
When your initial request is received, a few things are considered:
- Are you a good role-player (as defined by the staff)? Special characters
are few in number, and so the staff wish to see them played at a very high
standard. Just because you think you are a good role-player does not mean
that the staff necessarily think so.
- Are you a trustworthy player (as defined by the staff)? Many of the
special race/guild options involve IC-sensitive information, such as
skills or special powers, that is not for public release.
- Is there room in the game for the requested PC? There may simply be too
many special characters of a certain type in the game already, so
some race/guild options are extremely limited in availability. This is
particularly true of any magicker guild.
After your request is reviewed, you will receive a reply by e-mail saying
whether your requested PC has been approved or not.
If your request has not been approved, you will generally be told why, and
(if appropriate) what you might need to do in order to demonstrate that you
are able to meet the criteria listed above.
If your request has been approved, you will then need to submit the
following information about your proposed PC.
- name,
- sex,
- race,
- starting age,
- guild,
- secondary guild,
- sdesc,
- keyword list,
- main desc (less than 80 characters per line), and
- background (15 or fewer lines, less than 80 characters per line)
exactly as they would be if you were actually creating the character. Once
this information is reviewed and any necessary modifications (as noted by
staff) made, you will be notified by e-mail, and can then proceed to create
your requested PC as you would a normal PC. Note that a successful request
for a special PC does not mean that you will automatically be allowed to
play that type of PC in future.
